The Stone Woman

Today was a long and eventful day. We went to the Maya Temple Xunantunich. The name translates to the stone woman. It was everything I thought it would be and more. I learned so much about the culture and the people. It is in the middle of the jungle with small villages around the area. I saw howler monkeys, iguanas, lizards, snakes and a trantula. At one point the monkeys were communicating with other families of monkeys. I was on top of the tallest part of the temples and I was able to take a video and you can hear them howling. One of the coolest things I have ever heard. From the top you could see Guatemala on one side and Belize on the other side. I saw a tree that is that contains a poisonous sap that can make you go blind and cause a very nasty rash. The cool thing is that beside every poisionus tree there is another tree that grows that is the cure for the poison. There were avocado, lime, fig, almond, and allspice trees everywhere. This trip will be something I will never forget.
After we came down from the temples we went to the Guatemala border, and I learned a lot about the relations between the two countries. We the traveled to San Ignacio for market day. That was quite the experience. I can't even begin to tell you about the food and merchandise. Just about anything you would want or need, you can find it there. The food is so fresh and I saw things I have never even heard of. I bought so many fruits and vegetables. Amazing. We stopped at a roadside restaurant to eat. And let me just say that Memphis BBQ is still the best there is. But you can't beat the fresh watermelon and pineapple juice in Belize! Wow is all that I can say about today.
